Well, I’m not sure about my answer right now. I mean, I do acknowledge that history has an integral part in life. We are here today thanks to our ancestors’ sacrifice, and I guess it’s incredibly important for us to appreciate that. However, I still strongly believe that a detailed knowledge of history can be passed down to the next generations in various ways and sometimes learning history at school is not enough. In an age of rapid technological advance, we can easily gain some fascinating insights into the past with just a mouse click.

There are many ways to learn history effectively, you know, from traditional methods, acquiring knowledge from our history teachers in class, to more interactive approaches with the use of audiovisual aids for the classroom. In my view, it’s a lot better if students can absorb the information by watching something and having a chance to discuss it. By this I mean students should be allowed to watch documentaries about historical events besides learning from their textbooks, and then they can work in pairs or small groups and talk about the things they’ve learned from the films. I believe such a way can not only promote students’ autonomy and thinking abilities, but also deepen their understanding of the past.
