1. What do you need to prepare when you need to cook?
Well, in order to make a tasty dish, there are a couple of things I like to do. First up, I pick a recipe that I’m particularly interested in and then make sure I have all the ingredients on hand . Next, I check to see if I have the right tools for the job, like pots and pans and all that. And lastly, having a clean kitchen space would make the whole cooking experience much more enjoyable for me.
2. Do you agree that food is an important part of Vietnamese festivals and ceremonies?
Absolutely! Vietnamese festivals and ceremonies wouldn't be the same without a delicious spread of food. It's not just about fueling our body , you know – it’s a way to connect with loved ones , pay respect to ancestors, and even show gratitude to the gods. Each dish can also have a special meaning, like the sticky rice cake symbolizing the earth or the sticky rice mooncake representing the heavens.
3. Do you think cooking should be a compulsory or an optional course? Why?
To be honest, although I can see some benefits of making cooking mandatory at school, I don’t think it's the best approach for everyone. Sure, cooking skills can come in handy in case you need to, for instance, prepare healthy meals on a budget . But practically speaking, not everyone shares the same interests or learning styles in preparing dishes. Maybe cooking as an elective would be a better option, in my opinion.
4. Are there any differences between cooking today and in the past?
Yes, of course! Cooking today is indeed a whole different ball game compared to the past. These days, we have tons of fancy appliances and gadgets that make things way easier and quicker. Back in the day when everything was less modern, however, people would mostly rely on basic tools and techniques, such as roasting meat or fish over an open fire . Even the ingredients are different – today we have access to a wider variety from all over the world, whereas in the past, people mainly used what they could grow or find locally.
