Topic: Describe an occasion when the weather prevented your activity.
You should say:
- When it was
- Why it prevented your activity
- What you did
- And how you felt about it
I’d like to describe a stormy day a couple of years ago.
Actually, it was a beautiful morning with mild weather, which got me in the mood for some outdoor activity. So my family and I decided to go on a picnic in a nearby park.
But all of a sudden, the sky turned dismal, with grim and dark heavy clouds. In the blink of an eye, it was blowing a gale and the rain was coming down in torrents, so we had to find somewhere to shelter. At first, we hoped the rain would end soon, but an hour passed and there was no sign of its dying down. Technically (speaking), the picnic was canceled and we ended up in a seafood restaurant downtown. We hoped the delicious seafood dishes could partly make up for the frustration caused by the unexpected storm.
Later on, we found out that it was referred to as the most disastrous storm of the decade. In just a few hours the whole city turned into an absolute mess. The highways were flooded with vehicles stuck in traffic jams; trees uprooted, injuring many people. Even more horrifying was the power failure, which blacked out the whole city. Classes were canceled and schools were evacuated to make sure the students were all safe.
I think we were very lucky to have found that restaurant early before things got worse, or else we might have looked like a drowned rat. And who knows what might have happened. But thank God my family and I were safe and sound after the incident and needless to say, never in my life would I want to relive that day.
