Topic: Describe an item on which you spent more than expected
You should say:
what it is
how much you spent on it
why you bought it
and explain why you think you spent more than expected
To be honest, this is quite a challenging topic for someone with chrometophobia like me. You know I don’t like spending money, nor do I go shopping frequently. So recalling an occasion when I overspent in an instant is definitely not easy. That said, I went over budget when I bought my current laptop three years ago. I think it was around $2000, twice as much as the planned budget.
Why I had to buy a new laptop was a sad story. It was one beautiful day with a bit of sunshine. I decided to make the most of it, so I went to my favorite coffee shop to work on my projects. Unfortunately, the rain suddenly came down in torrents and I was totally drenched. So was my poor laptop. I was working to a very tight deadline then, so I needed a new operational laptop immediately.
The next day I rushed to a laptop store, seeking a replacement. I loved my old laptop so I intended to buy the same model, but it ran out of stock. That was also the time when the new MacBook Air was released, and it looked pretty cool with a sleek design. When I laid my eyes on it, I just couldn’t resist the temptation, so I brought it home. I had to eat instant noodles for the next few months, but it was worth it. I’m extremely impressed by its durability and speed, which outmatch a number of models that come after it.
I’m grateful I went over the budget that time because I think I won’t have to replace my laptop as regularly as before.
