IELTS Speaking Sample Part 2 - Describe a change that improved your local area

Topic: Describe a change that improved your local area. You should say

  • What it was

  • What problem it will solve

  • And how you feel about it

To be honest, this seems to be a tricky topic for me, as I’m neither extrovert nor gregarious enough to go outside and socialize with my neighbors. So, you know, I don’t pay much attention to what’s changing around me, but if I had to choose one to talk about, I guess it would be the local authority's attempt to green our residential area.



At first, I didn’t seem to notice any change around the blocks near my house. Not until a few months ago when I was taking a leisurely stroll did I happen to realize more trees had been planted along the streets. What a great way to provide more shade in the scorching heat of the summer days. I also overheard a conversation between two neighboring couples and at that moment, I knew that the whole area would be covered in lush green vegetation, and more family-friendly space would be available before long.



So far there have been various changes for the better in my neighborhood. And as far as I’m concerned, everyone seems fond of the new look of the area. Frankly speaking, I’m kinda apathetic about changes around me, but now that I've witnessed the radiant smiles on my neighbors' faces, I also feel extremely glad for us.


Vocabulary:
